A book titled “A discoursiue probleme concerning prophesies” by English physician and astrologer John Harvey and published in 1588, was found in the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C. by Arizona State University assistant professor, Brandi K. Adams. Adams came across the book while researching into when the term “Artificial Intelligence” was first coined.

Adams provides this loose translation of a passage from the book that relates to the topic, "How can any such divine and Metaphysical mysterie be directly, or indirectly, imitated by any naturall or artificiall intelligence?"

At the time, John Harvey used the term to refute the claims of those people who described themselves as prophets on the basis of the predictions that they proclaimed. Adams reasons that, “He could not imagine a world in which calculation and computation could make a predictive model of it or foretell its ending.”

If you have a plumber, electrician, hairdresser on speed dial, then according to Iman Balagam of Coveteur.com, you need to add your go to spiritual practitioner to the list. At least, that’s the trend amongst the rich and famous, and Balagam cites celebrities Gwyneth Paltrow and Demi Moore as examples. Balagam interviewed both psychics and clients for details, and the findings seem to show that people of means consult spiritual practitioners in the same way that they seek professional advice from therapists, accountants, lawyers or business advisers.

Alternative beliefs and practices are growing amongst Chilean youth.

According to a 2024 survey by the Chilean Center for Public Studies(CEP), although more than half of the country’s young people do not belong to any church, 67% say they have their own personal way of connecting with God. The findings also show that fifty-one percent of people aged 18 to 34 in Chile, no longer identify with any particular religion. According to Maureen Neckelmann, a sociologist with the Interdisciplinary Program in Religious Studies at the Pontifical Catholic University, “If you ask someone what their beliefs are, they will probably try to make a coherent case for why they believe in God and also believe in astrology”. Neckelmann believes the shift shows that what was once established doctrine is now a path assembled by each individual according to their own preferences.
