The City Council in Norfolk, Virginia, USA has recently repealed a 45 year old ban on the practice of palmistry, palm reading, phrenology or clairvoyance, for monetary or other compensation. Prior to the repeal of the law, these practices were classified as first-degree misdemeanours that carried a sentence of up to a year in jail.
The lifting of these restrictions is to the advantage of people like Ashley Branton who has earned a living as a psychic medium for seven years by what she describes as, "Helping a growing number of people with heavy choices about toxic relationships, home purchases and cross-country moves." Branton is reported to have said about the now defunct law, "I had no idea that was even a thing!"
Norfolk City spokeswoman, Kelly Straub made a statement saying that it was repealed "Because it is no longer used." City Council members had little to say during their vote, although one did comment that, "Somebody out there predicted that this was going to pass." That would presumably have been an illegal prediction!
Some young investors are using astrology and tarot cards to guide day trading decisions. They believe stock market behaviour aligns with cyclical patterns of planets and the moon.
TikToker TJR said in a video, "What's astrology? It's like predicting something based off of past events that like something else is going to happen. That's all trading is. Predicting something is going to happen, or something is going to do something a certain way based off of past events in the market because the market repeats itself."
Another TikTok influencer, Nova, @blonderwitch said in a video that "Using intuition and astrology" helped her earn close to $6,000 from trading in May alone.

New guidance by the UK government will allow pagan prisoners to be handed magic wands, tarot cards and ceremonial robes. This is all a part of new guidelines on how to deal with inmates of different faiths.
The UK Ministry of Justice officials have produced a 104 page guide entitled 'Faith and Pastoral Care for Prisoners' which advises prison staff on how to help inmates of different faiths including witches and pagans.
Paganism is a broad term that encompasses a variety of spiritual or religious beliefs and practices that are typically polytheistic, nature based and pre-Christian in origin. Practitioners draw from ancient traditions while incorporating contemporary values and beliefs. There are thought to be hundreds of pagan inmates in British prisons. The most recent figures available show that in 2013, there were around 600 pagan worshippers locked up in prisons around the UK, more than the number of Hindus or Jewish inmates.
In an article titled, 'Please, Stop Taking Horoscope Advice From TikTok', Elle magazine writer, Naomi May interviews several TikTok astologers who have amassed huge followings.
Vedic astrologer, Rani Khalon has almost 100,000 followers. Khalon told Elle that, there is a rise in the so-called 'horoscope experts' on TikTok. "It goes back to the fact that creating this content is just a consumer project to these people. The reason they're going to tell you really, really harmful stuff is to make you purchase healing from them. The more scared you are, the more likely you are to buy a reading to try and find answers."
Another such TikToker is Joshua Pingley, who said he was inspired to learn more about astrology during the Covid pandemic, after watching a now-viral video which asserted that "Every well-known serial killer was one of four zodiac signs: virgo, a pisces, a gemini, or a sagittarius."
Yet another such influencer warns that discernment is needed when consuming astrological advice from content creators online. "People who are good at making content aren't always the most accurate". He recommends we should ask, "Are they qualified? It's the same with anything. There are cowboys in every world, you've just got to fish them out."
The astrologer, Kushal Kumar who had previously predicted that World War 3 would start on June 18, has now pushed forward his date for doomsday to June 29. His previous prediction was covered in last month's edition of Astrology News. If however, you find yourself browsing through this month's edition, you can safely assume that his latest prediction is also false, thankfully!

A coven of more than 100 witches celebrated "dark magic and ancient wonder" at a mystical gathering in York, UK, in June. Staged by the Hocus Pocus Tiny Hotel, all kinds of magical thinkers and believers enjoyed sage burning, blessings, fortune telling and a whole cauldron of mystical activities, including live music and "tantalising elixirs" to drink.
This was the second annual Witches Coven at the themed hotel and some of the proceeds will go towards helping the homeless in York. One of the hotel owners, Camelia Andrei, called it a "Celebration of modern witchcraft".
A Duke University writing course will, this fall examine "Tarot, spells, and incantations" as students are tasked with creating their own "spell book." The class, "Radical Magic," is being offered through Duke University's writing programme and seeks to survey, "The ways in which magic and the supernatural have been coded as feminine, irrational, and sinister." According to the course description, topics of discussion in the class will include the Salem Witch Trials, "19th century spiritualist and occultist movements", second-wave feminism in the 1960s and 70s and will end with "Witchcraft in our current moment".
As part of the class, students will also, "Examine the literary qualities of Tarot, spells, and incantations, and question the distinction between writing and magic." For the course's final project, students will be tasked with creating their own "Personal grimoire, or spell-book."
Rwandan-Scottish actor, Ncuti Gatwa who plays the fifteenth incarnation of the Doctor in the popular BBC science fiction series, 'Doctor Who' recently disclosed his least favourite zodiac sign to Elle magazine.
