How January 2024 Sets the Stage Astrologically for Another Year of Transition

The year 2024 promises to be yet another year of transition in the decade of the 2020's. We still don't know where we are going to wind up yet, but the planets are giving us some boosts on our journey in the month of January 2024. January 1 starts off on a hopeful note when Mercury stations direct in 22° of Sagittarius after having been retrograde since December 13, 2023.

Mars on the Move

Mars moves from Sagittarius into Capricorn on January 4, 2024. Mars is a very happy camper in the cardinal earth sign of Capricorn and it will remain there until February 13, 2024. Mars is motivated to work hard and achieve goals in the sign of Capricorn, so if you haven't set your New Years' resolutions yet, this is the time to do it.

Make the Most of Mercury

Mercury moves back into Capricorn on January 13, 2024 and clears its retrograde shadow on January 20. This provides us with the all-clear sign, a veritable green light for more practical and goal-oriented communication and thinking. Mercury will remain in Capricorn until February 5, 2024, so make the most of it.

A Date to Remember

Save the day of January 20, 2024 as a banner day and a game changer. The Sun and Pluto will both depart the sign of Capricorn and enter Aquarius, but before they do, they will be conjunct in 29° of Capricorn at 8:46 a.m. 29° is considered to be the critical or anaretic degree, which can culminate in major events on the world front. This aspect can trigger power struggles accompanied by controlling and manipulative behavior. It can also lead to upheavals in governmental structures.

Be the Revolution You Seek

Pluto will enter the fixed sign of Aquarius at 7:50 p.m. on January 20 and remain in Aquarius until September 1, 2024. Pluto dipped its toes into Aquarius briefly in 2023 from March 23 until June 11. But Pluto will re-enter Aquarius for good on November 19, 2024 through March 8, 2043. The themes of Pluto in Aquarius involve people fighting back and rebelling against the power structures that reigned when Pluto was in Capricorn. We will be striving for a more democratic and idealistic society. Technology will also undergo massive transformation with Pluto in Aquarius and AI could become more authoritarian. The last time Pluto was in Aquarius was from 1777-1798, which included most of the American Revolution and the French Revolution.

Consider Yourself Warned

I know that the cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn are probably going to be heaving a sigh of relief with Pluto changing signs after having been in Capricorn since 2008 while the fixed signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius are shaking in their boots, wondering what is coming up for them. I am a Scorpio, but I can tell you that while Pluto was in Capricorn it hit my North Node in Capricorn, in my 3^rd house and my Chiron in Capricorn, in my 4^th house, so I was definitely not immune from Pluto in Capricorn's effects. No one really is exempt from the transformation that Pluto wreaks. So the bottom line is to be prepared for massive changes. As an American, I am very concerned that the United States Presidential election on November 5, 2024 will be occurring with Pluto back in Capricorn, but at least Mercury is direct.

It's Time for a Change

Uranus stations direct in 19° of Taurus on January 27, 2024. It has been retrograde since August 28, 2023 and will remain in direct motion until September 1, 2024. Uranus direct will give us more freedom to implement the changes that we have been contemplating for the past five months.

I Want to Break Free

The month of January ends on an auspicious note on January 29 when Mars in Capricorn is trining Uranus in 19° of Taurus. This is a day to take risks and break free of restrictive influences. By the end of January, all of the major planets are direct and we can finally start to see some progress and forward motion in our lives. Pluto moving into Aquarius in January is going to be a major player and I sense that it will be more active than last year's foray. It will be preparing us for the sojourn coming in November 2024 through 2043. Pluto in Aquarius will rock our world!
